TWH Chronicles: Passoni Vinci — The First Custom

by The Wheelhouse 31 Mar 2026
Passoni Vinci Custom Titanium Bike

Our very first custom Passoni build. After a visit to the Passoni headquarters near Milano, we knew the reputation of this brand was well deserved. To witness the teamwork, the meticulous attention to detail, and the overall passion of the people working in that small shop is to understand what makes a Passoni so special.

"It was painful to see this bike move on. It will go down as an all-time favorite custom Wheelhouse build."

The Build: Passoni Vinci

The Passoni Vinci is a masterclass in titanium and carbon integration. The frame features a stunning raw titanium finish seamlessly blended with carbon fiber tubing, accented by elegant gold details that elevate the entire aesthetic.

Built with a SRAM Red eTap AXS groupset and an ENVE cockpit, the bike strikes a perfect balance between classic Italian craftsmanship and modern performance technology. It rolls on deep-section carbon wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires, ready to deliver a ride quality that only custom titanium can provide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are Passoni bikes made?

Passoni bikes are meticulously handcrafted in their atelier near Milano, Italy. They are renowned for their custom titanium frames and exceptional attention to detail.

Can The Wheelhouse build a custom Passoni?

Absolutely. We work directly with Passoni to design, source, and assemble custom builds that perfectly match our clients' riding styles and aesthetic preferences.

What is the process for ordering a custom Passoni through The Wheelhouse?

Every custom Passoni build starts the same way: with a professional bike fit. Getting the geometry right is the foundation of everything, and we never skip this step.

From there, we work with you to select the frame style, finish, colors, accent details, components, and all the little bits that make a Passoni uniquely yours. This is where the fun begins — the choices are extraordinary.

Once the specification is locked in, a deposit is placed to confirm the order with Passoni's atelier in Milano.

Approximately six months later, your dream bike arrives. We then complete the final build, dial in the fit, and hand it over ready to ride. Worth every day of the wait.

How long does it take to receive a custom Passoni?

Lead time for a custom Passoni is approximately six months from the date the order is placed. This reflects the handcrafted nature of every frame built in their Milano atelier — and trust us, it is worth the wait.

What warranty comes with a Passoni frame?

Every Passoni frame comes with a lifetime frame warranty for the original owner. This covers manufacturing defects and reflects Passoni's absolute confidence in the quality of their handcrafted titanium construction.

Passoni also offers a crash replacement program, meaning that if the worst happens out on the road, you are not left without options. For full warranty and aftercare details, The Wheelhouse team is always on hand to guide you through the process.

Why choose titanium over carbon for a road bike?

Titanium offers a ride quality that carbon simply cannot replicate. It has a natural compliance that absorbs road vibration, delivering comfort over long miles without sacrificing stiffness where it matters. It is also extraordinarily durable — titanium does not corrode, does not fatigue in the same way as aluminium, and will not delaminate like carbon under impact.

A well-built titanium frame is genuinely a lifetime investment. Where carbon bikes may need to be replaced after a hard crash or after a number of years, a Passoni titanium frame can outlast multiple component generations. It is the material of choice for riders who want the very best — once and for life.

How long has Passoni been building custom titanium frames?

Passoni was founded in 1989 by Luciano Passoni near Milano, Italy, making them one of the longest-standing titanium frame builders in the world. They are widely recognised as the first company in Europe to manufacture titanium bicycles, debuting their first titanium frame at the EICMA international cycling show that same year. Over 35 years later, the brand remains a family operation, still building every frame by hand in their Vimercate atelier in the shadow of the great Alpine climbs made famous by the Giro d'Italia.

How are Passoni titanium frames welded?

Passoni uses only aerospace-grade titanium — Grade 9 (3Al/2.5V) and Grade 5 (6Al/4V) — meeting ASTM aerospace industrial standards. Because titanium is highly reactive to oxygen, nitrogen, and even trace contaminants during welding, each frame enters a dedicated arc-welding chamber and is welded in a vacuum filled with Passoni's own custom gas blend. This process eliminates contamination and ensures a structurally perfect weld every time. Each titanium frame then receives 30 hours of hand finishing and polishing before it leaves the atelier.
