The Wheelhouse is an authorised SWI dealer in Canada. SWI frames are hand-laminated in Villafranca Padovana, Italy, from Swiss-engineered carbon, and every one is built as a single uninterrupted monocoque shell. We are the Canadian dealer for SWI and we fit every frame to the rider who buys it.
Almost every carbon frame sold today is tube-to-tube or lugged: separate tubes are made, then bonded or wrapped together at the joints. Those joints are the weak point and the reason most "monocoque" claims are marketing rather than engineering. SWI builds a true monocoque — one continuous carbon shell formed in a single mould, with no bonded joints anywhere in the structure.
SWI's own position is blunt: they state that around 99 per cent of carbon frames described as monocoque are not. The practical difference to a rider is that the frame behaves as one piece rather than a collection of parts joined under load, which is what gives the Aequus its unusually calm, planted feel through corners and over rough surfaces.
The signature SWI weave — a diagonal pattern of 3,000 filaments per tow — is part of the structure, not a cosmetic layer, and it is left visible under a clear or tinted finish.
The Aequus is SWI's flagship road frame and the one that established the brand. Handmade in Italy, true monocoque construction, and configured to the individual rider rather than picked from a size chart. Available as a frameset or a complete custom build. SWI lists the Aequus from €6,990 direct — Canadian pricing from The Wheelhouse differs because it includes import, duty and our fit service, and we will quote it plainly rather than hide behind a "contact us".
The Leve is the same monocoque architecture and the same handmade process, engineered toward lower weight. Same geometry philosophy, less material where it is not doing structural work.
SWI's aerodynamic direction. The Wheelhouse holds a fully refundable CAD $4,000 reservation deposit for the AER, which reserves a build slot. If you decide not to proceed, the deposit is returned.
Three reasons that actually matter, in order:
Because SWI frames are made to order rather than pulled from stock, sizing is not a question of picking the closest of five sizes. We measure you, and the frame is laid up to those measurements. Our SWI geometry and size guide explains the numbers we send.
Yes. The Wheelhouse is listed as SWI's Canadian dealer on SWI's own dealer network, at 2136 33 Ave SW, Calgary, Alberta.
Every SWI frame is hand-laminated in Villafranca Padovana, in the Veneto region of Italy. The carbon engineering is Swiss. The lamination is Italian.
A true monocoque frame is a single continuous carbon shell with no bonded or wrapped joints. It matters because joints are where tube-to-tube frames flex, creak and eventually fail, and because a single shell can be tuned to behave as one structure under load rather than as several parts joined together.
It depends on the build, the finish and the fit. SWI's own European starting point for the Aequus is €6,990 before import and duty. Contact The Wheelhouse for a Canadian quote on a specific build — we will give you a real number rather than a range.
Yes. We supply SWI as a frameset, and we are happy to supply the frame alone if you are building it yourself. We would still encourage a fit first, because the frame cannot be changed once it is made.
Because each frame is laminated to order, expect a build window measured in months rather than weeks. We will give you the current lead time when you enquire, and we will not pad it.
